Spurs ease to victory with routine win
Son and Werner on target as Spurs move into the top four
Tottenham Hotspur moved into the top four of the Premier League with a comfortable 4-0 win over Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday night. Goals from Maddison Johnson, Son Heung-min and Timo Werner gave Spurs a commanding lead at the break, and they added a fourth through Lucas Moura in the second half. The win moves Spurs up to fourth place in the table, level on points with Liverpool and one point behind Manchester City. Aston Villa remain in 11th place. Tottenham started the game brightly and took the lead in the 10th minute when Johnson fired home from close range after a cross from Son. Spurs doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Son curled a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the area. Werner made it 3-0 in the 35th minute when he tapped home from close range after a pass from Moura. Villa had a chance to pull a goal back in the second half when Ollie Watkins was brought down in the area by Hugo Lloris. However, Watkins' penalty was saved by Lloris. Moura added a fourth for Spurs in the 70th minute when he finished off a counter-attack. The win was a welcome boost for Spurs, who had lost their previous two Premier League games. It also gives them a good chance of finishing in the top four this season.
