Italy outplayed as Spain seal historic triumph
Spain are the champions of Europe after a dominant 4-0 victory over Italy in the UEFA EURO 2012 final in Kiev.
Goals from David Silva, Jordi Alba, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata secured a famous triumph for La Roja, who have now won the tournament for the third time in a row, and for the second time in succession.
Vicente del Bosque's side were simply too strong for Italy, who were outplayed in all areas of the pitch. Silva opened the scoring in the 14th minute, and Alba doubled the lead just before half-time.
Torres made it 3-0 in the 84th minute, and Mata added a fourth in the dying seconds to complete the rout.
The victory is a testament to the incredible quality of the Spanish team, who have now established themselves as the best in Europe. They will now head to the Confederations Cup in Brazil as favourites to win another major trophy.
