Investigation Underway
Park officials are investigating the incident
The body of a 20-year-old college student from North Carolina was recovered from the Grand Canyon after he fell 400 feet from the rim, the National Park Service said in a statement.
The student, identified as Cameron N. Buerlein, was visiting the park with friends when he fell near the edge of the South Rim, officials said. Park rangers responded to the scene and searched for Buerlein throughout the night. His body was recovered Thursday morning.
Park officials are investigating the incident, but no further information was immediately available.
Buerlein's death is a reminder of the dangers of hiking near the edge of the Grand Canyon. Park officials urge visitors to stay on designated trails and to be aware of their surroundings.
